Our Methods
Our tallow is 100% Australian grass fed and finished sourced from ethically raised cows that graze on pasture all day long. We only use the suet for our tallow which is the fat surrounding the cow’s kidneys and is minimally processed to turn it from fat to tallow.
We use a traditional rendering method, which uses very low heat, and the tallow is then strained through cheesecloth multiple times in order to get a clean product for skincare use. Our process ensures all the tallow’s original nutrients are intact, being as close to what is found in nature as possible.
Speaking of staying as close to nature as possible, it doesn’t stop at our tallow. We do our best to ensure that all of the ingredients we use in our skincare follows the same principle.
Low and slow is our motto!
We use shelf stable butters and oils, which means that no preservatives are required. This makes them suitable for sensitive skin and protecting your skin barrier function. Did you know that some preservatives used in everyday skincare can weaken the skin barrier and contribute to sagging skin and wrinkles? They have the potential to alter the skin’s microbiome! You don’t have to worry about this happening with our skincare.
All of our chosen formulations are intentional and are carefully selected for their wide array of benefits for the skin. From the types of oils and butters used in our balms to the different herbs selected for their individual purpose, we ensure that we cover as many facets as possible to preserve your skin youth and health.
Our skincare is also essential oil free. Why is this important? Well, if you don’t already know by now, essential oils are volatile oils and they can be toxic and harmful when used incorrectly. Their cytotoxic and phototoxic properties make them generally unsafe for topical use, even at high dilutions. Instead, we use whole plants in order to reap the most therapeutic benefits for your skin’s health. Whole plants contain many flavonoids, minerals, polyphenols, tannins etc, which are extremely beneficial for your skin and are therefore better to be used as a whole, rather than only the isolated volatile compounds found within the essential oil.
Our small batch, handmade process matters the most when providing you with a skincare product that is going to make a difference to your skin’s health. Alongside our low and slow method, we use only glass and stainless-steel equipment, ensuring the highest quality is taken into account from start to finish.
