Tallow & Ingredients
What is tallow and why is it used in skincare?
Tallow is a nutrient-rich fat traditionally rendered from grass-fed beef suet. It has been used for centuries in natural skincare because its fatty acid profile is bio-compatible with the oils found naturally in human skin. This allows it to deeply nourish, support the skin barrier, and help maintain healthy hydration without relying on synthetic ingredients.
Our tallow is gently rendered and blended with skin-supportive botanicals to create gentle, effective skincare.
What skin types is tallow suitable for?
Tallow is suitable for most skin types, including dry, sensitive, and mature skin.
Because it is compatible with the skin’s natural oils, it absorbs easily and helps balance the skin’s moisture barrier. Many people with reactive or compromised skin find tallow especially supportive
Will tallow skincare clog my pores?
High-quality, properly rendered tallow is generally non-comedogenic for most people. Its composition allows it to absorb well rather than sit heavily on the surface.
As with any skincare product, we recommend patch testing if you are prone to breakouts.
What does tallow smell like?
Pure tallow has a very mild, natural scent. When properly rendered, it does not have a strong “beef” smell.
Our formulations are carefully prepared to keep the scent subtle and clean, with the gentle aroma of the botanicals used in the formula.
Does tallow suit sensitive skin?
Yes. Tallow is often very well tolerated by sensitive skin because it is simple, natural, and free from common irritants like synthetic fragrances, essential oils and harsh actives.
Its nourishing fatty acids help support the skin barrier and soothe dryness or irritation.
How can tallow help skin concerns like eczema?
Tallow is rich in beneficial fatty acids that help support the skin barrier.
For those experiencing dryness or eczema-prone skin, tallow can help lock in moisture, soften the skin, and support barrier repair. While it is not a medical treatment, many people find it very comforting for compromised or irritated skin.
How do I incorporate tallow into my skincare routine?
Tallow products are typically used as the final step in your skincare routine. You can use them to replace your current products or they can also be used alongside them.
Apply a small amount to clean, slightly damp skin to help seal in moisture. It can be used as a daily moisturiser, night treatment, or targeted balm for dry areas.
Is tallow safe for babies and children?
Because tallow is simple and nourishing, many parents choose it for babies and children with sensitive skin.
Our formulas avoid essential oils and harsh additives, making them gentle enough for delicate skin. As with any product, patch testing is recommended before full use.
Does using tallow in skincare harm animals?
The tallow used in our products is a by-product of the food industry. Rather than being wasted, it is thoughtfully repurposed into nourishing skincare.
We source high-quality tallow from responsibly raised animals and believe in honouring the whole animal by using resources fully and respectfully.
Are Tallow Bar products and packaging environmentally friendly?

Our Products
Which product is best for eczema or sensitive skin?
Our Tallow Face + Body Balm or Tallow Creams are all very gentle and suitable for sensitive skin and issues like eczema, psoriasis, rosacea etc. We have had many customers report success using them without any issue. The one you choose will highly depend on what scent and texture you prefer. Everyone's skin is unique and there is no "one size fits all" when it comes to skincare, so we always recommend patch testing first to ensure our product is suitable for your specific skin issue. If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to us directly either via our contact page or the chat button, so we can assist you.
Do any products suit psoriasis?
While our products are not medical treatments, many customers with dry or psoriasis-prone skin enjoy using our tallow products to help soften and hydrate the skin. Keeping the skin barrier nourished can help improve comfort and reduce dryness. Our Vanilla Tallow Cream is particularly suitable for psoriasis as the main compound in vanilla, vanillin, has shown potential as an effective anti-inflammatory compound against psoriatic skin inflammation.
What's the difference between the balm and the creams?
Our Tallow Creams are herb-infused, whereas our Tallow Balm is not. It really depends on your use case and what scent you prefer. Scents are described on each product page. The balm is best used for face + smaller areas needing attention. The creams spread easier and absorb quicker for larger areas on the body.
Are Tallow Bar products safe for acne-prone skin?
Many people with acne-prone skin tolerate tallow well because its fatty acid profile is bio-compatible to the skin’s natural oils. We have had many customers prone to breakouts use our tallow products with success.
However, every person’s skin is unique. We recommend starting with a very small amount and patch testing to see how your skin responds.
How long will products last with daily use?
Because tallow-based products are rich and concentrated, a little goes a long way. Most customers find a jar lasts up to a few months with daily use for the face.
